Otherworldly
Magasin 3 is always a good source of discovery as far as contemporary art is concerned. This time we were looking at big scale installations like a gigantic dismantled copper reproduction of the Statue of Liberty entitled "On the Tip of My Tongue", by Danish-Vietnamese artist Danh Vo. We also spent some time observing a funny "tumble weed" recreated with electric magnets and real grass - the ball of weed was actually moving around a mirrored base, quite fascinating and mesmerizing... We liked the piece by American Charles Long, which looked like a table hanging sideways on a wall, with strange "Star Wars" (Otto's analysis) landscapes stuck under it. Anish Kapoor's deep black-blue cone intrigued everyone with the strange optical effect it created.
Many "weird" things to look at, which are great to try to describe and understand in the company of Lili, Poppy and Otto - their eyes often see so much more than we do, and their interpretation is also more creative, less rational and informed as ours.
Once outside the gallery, the sun was shining so we took a walk through the woods, stopped for a cup of tea from our thermos flask. Lili was showing Otto how to build a seat out of twigs and branches found around our "camp", scout-style. The "chair" was made and held Lili's weight for a bit, before it snapped, oops!
