Whiteness

We have got snow! Äntligen! At last! Enfin! Not that much, no, but enough to coat landscapes and roofs with the whiteness we all need at this time of year when everyone is fed up with the lack of light and the uninspiring weather. This thin layer reflects the little sunshine that may appear and makes daylight seem longer.

Yesterday we had made a trip to Stadsbiblioteket, a first with the whole family. We were delighted to leave with a good harvest - a baker's dozen of books, in all our languages : English, French, Swedish and even sign language! We were told that we could take up to 50 items at any one time, and keep the whole lot for 4 weeks - for free of course. Not bad, eh? This might turn into a weekly habit, this little trip to the library, as everyone enjoyed it, not least Otto who spotted a big red book about pirates as soon as he entered the reading room and went home with the National Geographic's Encyclopedia of dinosaurs...

Today was more of an outdoor day, as promised before bedtime last night. We hesitated a bit when we first looked outside the window - blizzard! But after a couple of hours of wind and flakes, the sun came out! We were glad we were persistent - once in Skansen, we enjoyed the luxury of an almost deserted park! The snow was not quite deep enough to sledge that much but Lili and Otto took it in turn to try out every little bit of slope. We met very friendly horses as well as a jolly trio of fat geese. The seals were happy to demonstrate their diving skills to us and the wolverine brothers were having fun chasing each other in the powdery snow. A tall grey owl kept its eyes on us, seemed very serious. As for the bears, they were hibernating safely hidden away in their grotto (we presumed). The reindeers had their fluffy light-coloured coats on but the moose were nowhere to be seen - to Otto's slight disappointment.

Skansen was so pretty and calm under the falling snow. We really enjoyed our day out!

...sounds like a good combination at this time of year. Enjoy the outside snow and see the animals at Skansen and then come home to the warm and some interesting books. I thought I recognised Skansen...but it looks quite different to when we have visited in the Summertime - much quieter and much whiter!

Still fairly mild here but a rather dull and wet day today.

Take care, love to all from

Rosemary/Mum/Grandma

XXxxx
